phuket marathon 2020

UPDATE: The Laguna Phuket Marathon has been postponed to December 5 and 6, 2020. We’ve removed the original story that stated the June event was going ahead as planned.

Here’s a message from the organisers, posted on the event’s Facebook page:

The worldwide spread of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) has had a broad impact on our daily lives. Virus containment and public health are the number one priority right now. Together with our government, partners, and sponsors, we have made the decision to postpone the ‘Supersports Laguna Phuket Marathon’ to 5/6 December 2020.

We understand that this will be disappointing for so many runners who have been looking forward to the event. There will be many questions from runners that we will try our best to answer in the coming days and weeks. Please bear with us if we are unable to respond to everyone immediately.

The first question for most will be about their entry fee. We can assure that all entries received for the original date remain valid and will automatically be transferred to the new date. No action is required on this.

Should runners be unable to participate in the event on the new date we will offer a transfer of entry to the following year or the option of transferring the entry to another person. This option will require a standardized online process which we will determine and set up in the coming days. An announcement of the exact procedure will be made in due course. In order for us to effectively manage participant enquiries, please contact us by email as the exclusive channel of communication.

We thank you for your understanding and cooperation in this crisis situation and hope that the running community will unite in solidarity during this difficult time.

Details about the event, from a previous press release:

Held over two days, runners can choose from six distances: 2km Kids Run, 5km and 10km will take place on December 5 as the sun sets, and the Half Marathon (21.0975km), Marathon (42.195km) and Marathon Relay (42.195km) will take place on December 6 as the sun rises. The scenic course takes runners past local villages, coconut plantations, through the beachfront Sirinat National Park, and starts and finishes at Laguna Grove in the award-winning Laguna Phuket complex.

“It’s an honour that the Superports Laguna Phuket Marathon has been on runners’ wish list for many years, and a delight to witness the steady growth of the running community in Thailand. The past few years have seen running events play a bigger role not only in promoting a healthy lifestyle, but also helping to raise awareness and funds for meaningful causes. Supersports Laguna Phuket Marathon leads the way in both endeavours, very much in sync with Laguna Phuket’s aspirations,” said Paul Wilson, Senior Assistant Vice President – Group Director, Golf and Destination Sales & Marketing, Laguna Phuket.

As Phuket’s largest sporting event and a top marathon major in Thailand, Supersports Laguna Phuket Marathon meets stringent international standards. Certified by IAAF AIMS (Association of International Marathons and Distance Races) since the event’s first year, it is a qualifying event for the Boston Marathon.

The 15th Supersports Laguna Phuket Marathon will take place on 5 and 6 December 2020 at Laguna Phuket. Registration can be made online at For more information:
