The Laguna Phuket Marathon is one of the biggest sporting events on the island, and the countdown is on for this year’s race, set to run from June 9 to 10.

The registration deadline is June 4, so be sure sign up soon if you’re keen to join!

The race route takes you through some of Phuket’s most picturesque areas. Run through tropical forest, rubber and pineapple plantations, along beautiful beaches, and the manicured tropical gardens of the Laguna Phuket resort complex.

Runners from all over the world come to join the event, which is now certified for competitive racers, and plenty of local people join in as well. If the marathon’s too much of a challenge you could sign up instead for a 10.5km or 5km fun run, or the half marathon.

Entry fees vary, with overseas entrants charged US$105, expats in Thailand charged 2,200 baht, and Thais charged 1,450 baht for the full marathon.

Here are some more details from the organisers:

South East Asia’s Leading Destination Marathon, the award-winning Laguna Phuket Marathon, will take place at the Laguna Phuket resort complex on Bang Tao Beach on 9th and 10th June, 2018. Organised by leading event organiser Go Adventure Asia, Laguna Phuket Marathon has been certified by AIMS (Association of International Marathons and Distance Races) for a 13th consecutive year and remains a qualifying event for the Boston Marathon.

Now in it’s 13th year, the event was voted a “Top 10 Best Marathon” in Thailand by Wingnaidee for the second year running, and as the event continues to grow organisers expect to break 8,000 runners from more than 50 countries to “Run Paradise” this year.

Improvements have been made to the half marathon and marathon courses, and for the first time a new Marathon Team Relay has been introduced, whereby each team has to have four runners.

The Kids Run (2km), 5km and 10.5km start the running festival on 9th June in the late afternoon, while runners in the 21.097km (half marathon), 42.195km (marathon) and Marathon Team Relay compete on 10th June in the early morning. All race categories are timed.
